After completing my freshmen year of college english courses, I can definetly say that my communication skills have improved exponentially.  I have gained confidence in my ability to articulate my thoughts and ideas and have become a self-assured and powerful public speaker.  Along with this, I have become more versed in the practice of deliberation.  However, the most important skill I strengthened in these two classes is in regards to the skill of rhetoric, which is the art of effective persuasive speaking or writing.  Persuasion is an essential skill to master, specifically for me it is necessary because I plan on being a marketing major.  This means a large portion of my career will focus around persuading an audience to either buy a product or pay for a service.  Thus, I hope to hone and improve these skills for the remainder of my college career in order to become fully practiced in the art of rhetoric.
